Considered I am so close, I haven’t explored around Brockdish for sketching at all, I will add to my list!

It is a lovely spot! I want to continue the walk further as I am sure there are more delights to discover.

Tales of the Riverbank, made on the Isle of Wight. The guitar was played by the man who taught my husband. Happy memories there. Hope you're sorting things out now.

I didn't realise that is where it was made! The music is so evocative. Thankfully things are now drying out, but it has been a very trying few days.

I do hope the damage was limited and you dry out promptly! Alas there is so much housing and endless concrete here, the water has nowhere to go, and rushes down the hill to temporarily collect in huge unappealing lakes crossing roads and footpaths!

Sorry to be so late in replying, I was a bit done in by yesterday, but thankfully it is now beginning to dry out! I love on a hill, but the water came down with such force it lapped the pavement and pushed the drains up...it was spectacular, but very unsettling.

Oh, Tales of The Riverbank! I couldn't believe how long that rain went on for, Deborah, it just didn't stop. I loved this post, a perfect reminder to not push ourselves too hard when the juices aren't flowing.

Thank you, Lindsey. It hammered down! Yesterday was spent clearing up but today things are much drier, thank goodness. Thank you for your lovely words and sorry I am late catching up.

Oh Deborah, please don’t apologise - we can’t be on here every five minutes! Have a lovely weekend, hopefully we will see some sunshine.

Hoping your home and studio are doing ok after the thunderstorms. Somehow we avoided it all in Dublin.. it swept right through the midlands here and it felt like everywhere else in Ireland got drenched except for us.. was a lovely couple of days 🤷‍♂️

It was very localised here. The storm seemed to sweep to through but it was so violent and unexpected. Thankfully things are drying out and it feels much better now I have cleaned up. I am glad you had some sunshine, always welcome in Ireland!

So sorry to hear about the flooding!

Thank you though for another great post. So readable and informative and I always look forward to the new rabbit holes of interest to fall down at the end. It's really sublime Deborah. Up there with Melissa Harrison I reckon. :) xx

Blimey, thank you! I am so glad you liked it. I have spent the afternoon cleaning up and, while it was a miserable task, it feels much better having tackled it.

I'm so sorry to hear about the flooding. I had loads of rain where I am, but I hear it was one of the lighter areas. I hope any damage is minimal and easily sorted.

Thank you very much, Martin. It was so sudden and shocking. I have started the clear up, but it is still very sodden and unsavoury. I am hoping the dehumidifier will help.

Lovely as always. Look forward to watching/listening to some of the video etc. And my heavens — the flooding. I hope that both studio and house are ok.

It has been a tricky week! I shall face clearing my studio today but I am not looking forward to the job...Thank you so much for taking the time to read it.

I loved this post Deborah. So often I have been out to sketch something beautiful but can’t do it justice on paper and it’s easy to feel frustrated. But sometimes we just need to sit and look.

Scary to hear about the floods and hope you manage to dry out your studio. It makes me wonder where it will all end.

Loved the trip down memory lane to tales of the riverbank

Thank you, Gina. I intended to take another approach completely, but sometimes you have to be honest and accept that it doesn't always work out and that is just part of how it is. I used to be really hard on myself, reading all sorts of stuff on how to beat the creative block, but I really think it is just part of the process and an up will come along again soon!

Thankfully things are now drying out, but it was so sudden and shocking. Xx

The flash flood and the power of Nature is unsettling to us; we prefer Nature to be pretty and serene. I sense deeply that Mother Nature is now in the final stage of sending urgent warnings. In Her kindness and mercy, She has been generous with us.

But how have we repaid her generosity?

The birds here are more vocal than usual. We humans, for the most part (present company excepted) continue to act with unmitigated Hubris. Were we to have more Humility, we would have greater respect for Nature.

I for one know that Humans are no match for Her.

It was so shocking and sudden and these events are becoming ever more common and disturbing. Today, after losing power yesterday, I will begin drying out my studio...not an easy task. Thank you for your kind words and for reading my piece.
